Specialist automated systems provides for a range of on-train, wayside, station and platform systems that carry out an element of intelligent processing, detection or protection as part of the overall integrated rail control systems solution.

Ensuring safety where there is large ridership and a high number of trains per hour has always been challenging and historically in the domain of metro operators. However the trends in mainline railway passenger numbers continues to rise and to provide additional capacity in the system, trains are becoming longer and frequency is increasing.

Our Rail Control Systems team has experience in protecting the rail corridor through continuous improvement in the fields of Platform Edge Doors (PEDs), Sensitive Door Edges and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) with analytics.

Remote Condition Monitoring (RCM) is key in enabling any operator to move from a reactive find and fix to a more proactive predict and prevent model through better understanding their assets, asset behaviour and failure modes. We have class leading experience in RCM for both rolling stock and infrastructure based solutions. Our Energyx monitoring system has received universal praise and is in the process of being rolled out on more and more vehicles.

Other automated systems include the application of smart ticketing solutions, barrier systems, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies, and people counting systems. The team can draw on a wealth of technical expertise and broad systems knowledge to provide a range of consultancy services to develop systems to meet end operational requirements.
