SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce that it has appointed Darren Carpenter as Project Director - Major Projects, Rail & Transit (formerly Interfleet). In his new role, Darren reports to UK Business Development Director, Iain Court. He will support Iain in developing the recently rebranded company’s Major Projects offering.
Darren has over 25 years’ experience in the rail sector. He joins SNC-Lavalin from The Louis Berger International Group, where he spent several years working in Saudi Arabia as Project Chief Engineer and Rail Infrastructure & Rolling Stock Delivery Manager for the Riyadh Metro, Lines 4, 5 and 6.
Previously, Darren held a number of senior roles at Network Rail. Most recently, he led the engineering team working on the Great Western Electrification Programme. Before that, Darren was responsible for the UK’s first deployment project of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), from inception through to final commissioning.
His previous projects encompass a number of major schemes, including High Speed 1, the Docklands Light Railway Extension, the Jubilee Line Extension and the Channel Tunnel Rail link crossing to France.
“Darren’s extensive ERTMS and Electrification expertise made him the perfect candidate,” says Ben Sutcliffe, SNC-Lavalin UK Recruiter. “He joins the business during an exciting period of growth.”
“We’re very pleased to have Darren on board,” adds Michael Grace, Regional Director, Rail & Transit UK. “Darren’s experience will prove invaluable in supporting major UK projects, such as HS2 and Crossrail2.”
Interfleet was acquired by SNC-Lavalin in 2011, and formally adopted the name of its parent company on 1st January this year.
