SNC-Lavalin Rail & Transit is an international rail consultancy, so our core assets are our people. By investing in the training and development of our engineers, we are able to improve the value of our business. Our scheme benefits both the company and the technicians.
The rail industry needs more young engineers to sustain the knowledge and expertise. Our commitment to provide training is recognised throughout the industry. Our Technician Development Scheme is a higher level apprenticeship, designed to enable our technicians to gain hands on experience whilst studying part time for a BEng degree.
The development scheme is a five year structured programme made up of four main elements:
- Gaining internationally recognised engineering qualifications: completing further education engineering courses on a part-time basis, leading to an Engineering Council Accredited, Bachelor of Engineering degree (BEng)
- Gaining practical work based engineering experience: completing work under the direction and guidance of experienced engineers
- Gaining a wider understanding of the railway transportation industry and the businesses role within the transport sector: undertaking external placements within a train maintenance/overhaul facility, train operating company and train or equipment manufacturer
- Gaining professional registration: initially Engineering Technician (EngTech) following on to Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration with the possibility of continuing this professional development and completing an MSc qualification to gain Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration
