How long have you been at SNC-Lavalin?
I joined the company in August 2009 after completing two summer placements in 2007 and 2008.

Where did you study?
Durham University.

What course did you do?
General Engineering, later specialising in Mechanical (MEng).

How have you progressed within the company?
Since joining SNC-Lavalin I have taken responsibility for larger projects and project teams up to £1.7m. I was also since been given responsibility for the line management of a team of 16 engineers and have recently progressed to be Head of Rolling Stock Engineering. This has covered two core railway disciplines - dynamics and structures. I have worked on a wide variety of railway vehicles from light rail through to on-track machines. The breadth of experience which can be gained through working within the teams within the company is huge.

How did the graduate scheme help in getting you to your current position?
The graduate scheme provides an excellent understanding of the broader railway industry and allowed me to make an informed choice about my future career direction.

What’s been your most exciting opportunity yet?
I have particularly enjoyed leading my team of engineers in an ever larger variety of projects and tackling the issues which arise when performing complex analyses for customers.

What makes it a great place to work?
The supportive nature of all the teams.
