How long have you been at SNC-Lavalin?
Just over two years.
What attracted you to the SNC-Lavalin graduate scheme?
The variety of placements and support throughout the scheme. I was also attracted to the potential for further education in the form of an MSc and developing towards Chartership over a short space of time.
Where did you study before?
University of Nottingham.
What course did you do?
BEng Civil Engineering.
What’s your current role at SNC-Lavalin?
Civil Engineer in the Built Environment team.
What interests you about your role?
The variety of projects that I have the opportunity to get involved in. The role can be technical - with some projects requiring design calculations - but also managerial. In some cases I have the opportunity to manage budgets and resource to deliver a project.
What opportunities have you had since you’ve worked here?
I have spent time out on site with the Survey team and performed asset surveys at a number of depots. I’ve contributed to an Electrification project for over a year, bringing it from the initial design stage through to the construction phase, liaising with clients and industry professionals throughout. I’ve done presentations, got two-thirds of the way through my MSc and have had a lot of support towards my Chartership development.
What other teams have you worked in while on the graduate scheme?
I have worked in the Build Environment, Track and Survey, Overhead Line Electrification and Track Asset Survey teams and I’m about to get experience with the Project Managers.
What makes it a great place to work?
I feel that my managers, other colleagues and the senior management do have my best interests at heart and want to develop me into a competent engineer.
