Client: Manchester Airports Group (MAG)

The existing Track Transit System (TTS) at Stansted Airport is an automated transport system that carries passengers between the Main Terminal Building and two of the three remote satellite buildings. In order to be kept in service for the next 10 to 15 years, Stansted’s TTS requires upgrade to ease future maintenance and obsolescence issues.

SNC-Lavalin were asked to provide technical and procurement advisory services as an independent competent person, to support this upgrade and provide expert advice.

Project Activities

  • Providing strategic technical thinking on behalf of the client to identify the risks and benefits associated with upgrade options
  • Engaging regulatory bodies and agreeing a pragmatic approach to regulation of the upgrade
  • Using product-independent expertise to identify how a proprietary system can be life-extended offering a significant saving over total replacement
  • Identifying and supporting a procurement strategy to allow cost-efficient procurement of the upgrade

Implementing the upgrade to the TTS system will replace life expired assets and components and help to improve the reliability and performance of the TTS system for passengers using Stansted Airport.

Through engaging SNC-Lavalin, Manchester Airports Group has received world class independent technical and commercial advisory services. This has helped to outline the technical solution and procurement strategy for the replacement system.
