SNC-Lavalin provided procurement support to GAF for thirty Class 379s through the procurement cycle from specification finalisation to entry to service. Commercial and technical management were combined to lead the delivery of this highly advanced, showcase, train design.

Key benefits were:
  • Support throughout the full procurement cycle from specification, tendering support and contract development through to technical management of design, manufacture, delivery, test and commissioning.
  • On-time delivery of a high-quality technically advanced train with functionality including comprehensive wi-fi based train shore data exchange for; fault monitoring and reporting, real-time passenger information system with quarter-hourly updates of train schedule changes, remote seat reservation uploading, automated driver schedule card system, remote access to forward facing, track debris, pantograph and saloon CCTV systems.
  • A TSI-PRM compliant train delivered and capable of operating in 12-car Driver Only Operation (DOO) mode.

Project activities included:

  • Development and finalisation of the procurement specification, management of the tendering process and development of Manufacturing Supply Agreement (MSA) and Train Service Agreement (TSA).
  • Technical input and support to the legal team in preparation of contract and schedules.
  • Project Engineer technical management of vehicle design, manufacture, approvals and successful entry into service, including train-wayside interfacing technical support and network mapping with TIPLOC codes.
  • Review and checking of vehicle test specifications and test witnessing.
  • Depot facility procurement and establishment.
