How long have you been at SNC-Lavalin Rail & Transit (formerly Interfleet)?
I have been with the company since 2013.
What’s your role?
I am a Consultant with Rail Technical Services in Brisbane, Australia.
What interests you about your role?
I enjoy the challenges of differing assignments – no two assignments are alike in any way. I’ve also spent a large part of my career in the operational environment – the opportunities in consulting, developing strategies for delivering assignments, and helping our clients is a great change and the reputation that we have as experts in railways is great to be able to market, however I want to reinforce and improve that reputation even further.
What opportunities have you had since you’ve worked here?
I’ve been placed on client site working on on-track plant, which has been interesting as these machines tend to be quite complex. I’ve also had the opportunity to see parts of Australia and be involved in projects that I wouldn’t have otherwise been able to see. I’ve also had the opportunity to learn and experience assignments I wouldn’t normally – Light Rail, ERTMS/ETCS, train communication systems, development of authoritative standards.
What makes it a great place to work?
The people – always willing to help out or answer questions that I might have, and very easy to get along with and work with. It makes my job enjoyable to know that I share common goals with the rest of the team and know that we are all pulling in the same direction.
The value that is placed on continued professional development and the development of its team is also great to benefit from, whether that’s the opportunity to complete professional accreditations or develop and deliver industry papers or presentations.
Why do you stay?
I stay because I enjoy the environment, I enjoy the work and I get great satisfaction out of helping clients, many of whom I know from previous employers, improve their railways.
