How long have you been at SNC-Lavalin Rail & Transit (formerly Interfleet)?
I was introduced to the company while completing my undergraduate degree and have now been a full-time employee for 2.5 years.
What’s your role?
By title I am a Mechanical Engineer in Training (EIT) but I have had the opportunity to serve in many roles including Quality Coordinator, Bid Support and Junior Project Manager.
What interests you about your role?
Although an engineer by trade, my interest has always been in Project Management and Business Development. My job is never dull because it is always changing as I am given opportunities to support both internal and external projects. One day I could be travelling to meet with clients in Florida and the next I could be meeting overseas to implement a new Project Management system.
What opportunities have you had since you’ve worked here?
The organisation has provided the technical work and mentorship required to gain Professional Engineering (P.Eng) status while also allowing me to expand my capabilities in the management of people and projects. The company listens to my career aspirations and provides tasks to develop the skills necessary to get there. The opportunity to travel to interesting places is always around the corner and I am constantly meeting new, inspiring people.
What makes it a great place to work?
It may sound cliché but our strength is in its people. Colleagues at all levels are always willing to support your development by sharing their own knowledge and expertise. The family culture truly is global as I have travelled to multiple regions and have yet to find one that contradicts these values.
Why do you stay?
The company provides a warm and welcoming environment which always remains regardless of organizational or industry changes. They cares about personal goals, recognises talent, rewards hard work and challenges employees to exceed their own expectations. I appreciate knowing that the tools required to reach my career aspirations will be provided – I just need to push myself to get there!
